How We Create

The writing process is important to us on a multitude of levels. We are creative persons by nature and writing is our form of self-expression, but it’s also our career. We take great care to create an environment and a mindset that lends itself to producing our best work. We’re thrilled to show you what works for us so that you can learn some of our best writing practices.

  • Clean Desk

Clutter is the enemy of creation, and without a clean working space, it can be easy to get distracted. We keep the desk clean and free of clutter so that our brain can focus on the story. We’re trying to tell and the ideas we’re trying to express.

  • Defined Working Times

Procrastination is part of the writing process, but by setting defined working times we create realistic goals for concentration. We tend to write best in the morning, but we know other writers who only write at night.

  • No Distractions

To write we need a peaceful place that’s free of distractions. While some writers can listen to music while they create, we need almost total quiet which means no TV, no music, and no kids or loved ones coming in and out asking questions like ‘what's for dinner?’.

Main Working Principles

The Most Important Steps To Follow

Write A Lot

Don’t wait until you have a “million-dollar idea”. Instead write every day about anything and everything you want. Try not to judge yourself as you express your ideas! Most of the time, when we come back and read through my writing, we find a ton of great ideas that we can use together or as separate stories.

Read A Lot

Books are like taking a glimpse into another world, seeing what wonders and fantastical lands live in the minds of others. Reading opens up the creative parts of our brains and inspires us to imagine what life could look like from other perspectives.

Spread Your Ideas

Don’t be afraid to spread your ideas, because the amazing ones don’t exist in a vacuum, meaning they expand when you share them with others. By talking with your friends or family about the ideas you want to write about. You can get new ideas for ways to take the stories and find valuable insight into how your writing makes them feel.

Write and Draw

We like to put pen, pencils, and colors to paper to make our words come alive. The writing process plants the idea and the illustrations transform each page to create a visual representation that connects with each child.
